New York is always a good idea, but New York over Memorial Day is a great one. This year, the holiday falls on Monday, May 27. If you’re planning to stop by The Manhattan Club over the weekend, check out these events.
Memorial Day Parade
Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor the people who have lost their lives in service of the country. One of the best ways to do it is going to a Memorial Day Parade. New York City has many options to choose from: the biggest parade is The Little Neck-Douglaston parade in Queens, but if you’re not up for the trek there, head instead to Riverside Park for the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Day Observance from 10am‒12pm.
Fleet Week
Every year, members of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps gather in New York. This year, Fleet Weeks runs from May 22 to May 27, 2019. During this time, you’ll have the chance to see and tour ships docked in New York Harbor. One of the most popular places to visit at this time is the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, which hosts movie screenings, live performances, interactive exhibits and more.
Shakespeare in the Park
Theater lovers will finally get their Shakespeare fix! Each year, Central Park joins Broadway in showcasing some of the best theatrical performances in the city. The 2019 season kicks off on May 21, 2019 with Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon. Tickets are free but require waiting on line at select distribution points on the day of performance. If you want to avoid waiting in line, try their lottery ticket options.
